projgen tagged me for this meme… and I see we have some similar responses!
Seven Things I’d Like to Do Before I Die:
- Visit Israel
- Speak better Hebrew
- Stop feeling that as a convert I’m a second-class citizen within Jewry and be treated with respect by my community. I would like for when someone learns of my ‘journey’ they don’t a) ask me why i did it. or b) immediately assume i know nothing about judaism and start defining every word they use.
- Read and understand all the words of the entire Torah b’ivrit
- Keep my work spaces clean for longer than 30 minutes
- Be able to devote more time to learning Torah
- Plan a proper week of meals
Seven Things I Can’t Do:
- Speak with my father. He passed away when I was little
- Plan a proper week of meals. For seven lunches, dinners, and breakfast.
- Grow taller (I’m near 5′)
- Keep houseplants alive for longer than 3 months
- Enjoy the telephone.
- Ride a bike comfortably with lots of car-traffic.
- Swim. Which is amusing as I grew up near the water and my father was a lifeguard from a very young age. [note, i am not afraid to swim in the water, I can dog paddle all day, I just do not know any "proper" swim strokes]
Seven Things That Attracted Me to My Partner:
- His kindness
- How he listens to me and treats me as an equal.
- His infinite supply of patience and understanding
- He vacuums.
- He irons.
- He has great fashion and people sense.
- His care for others, through giving tzeddekah or otherwise
Seven Books That I Love:
- The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett — a family friend gave me this in a beautiful hard cover when I was 10 or so. I think I read it monthly for the next many many years. I still read it often.
- Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card — I didn’t learn of this until University …
- Ayn Rand — I enjoyed both The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged
- Mercedes Lackey — Valdemar series is amazing
- Anne McCaffrey — Pern is amazing
- James Michener — Chesapeake was the first of his works that I read. I found all of his novels quite fascinating. I have a very soft spot for historical fiction.
- The Torah, Neviim, Ketuvim — with soft spots for any parts featuring amazing women
Seven Movies I Watch Over and Over:
I don’t watch many movies. I never have…
- Star Wars. Original only.
- This one version of the Secret Garden … I’ll try to get details. My mum has the VHS
Seven People I Want to Tag:
Ok, I don’t have any people who haven’t recently done this meme, so if you feel inspired feel free!
I have a friend who is a convert and she says the same – people always ask her “why” she converted. She finds it very invasive. And I’m sorry you aren’t treated better by people.
Hey! I’m a houseplant killer, too!
You read Mercedes Lackey? So I’m guessing you read Dave Eddings and Roger Zelazny, as well – have you read the Nine Princes of Amber? Love it! I would say Atlas Shrugged kept me occupied, but I don’t know that I enjoyed it. Since we seem to have so many books in common, I’m going to check out Ender’s Game; I’ve never heard of it.
Curious as to why you don’t watch movies?
Thanks for playing! Weird how we seem to have so many similar answers, eh?
Oh, progjen, you’ll like Ender’s Game. And I agree with you (Ruth and/or Progjen, as appropriate) on Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffrey, Roger Zelazney… but I haven’t a clue who Dave Eddings is. I think I have to go find out!
I think I hate David Eddings. No one has the right to write 10 million page (slight exaggeration) action-packed page-turner books that you (okay, I) can’t manage to put down for hours on end!!!! Not fair! I have a household to run here. People depend on me to not disappear into a book for so long, and to actually be awake enough the next day to take care of them and my chores.
(I guess that’s a back-handed Thank You to projgen)
