Aviel Barclay, an Orthodox soferet, has a wonderful post from a talk she gave recently on the tradition of women sofrot. Quite fascinating. Aviel’s story (what I’ve read of it thus far) is interesting, her artwork very beautiful, and i wish her yasher koach on her work.

Today (last night as well), the 15 Sh’vhat, is tu b’sh’vat, the new year for trees. As I’m still busy, and trying to focus on Ruth, I’ll ask kindly that you read more at one of these sites:

renreb, who I love dearly for her insights, has a beautiful and poignant post on men and minyamin. I have a similar fantasy to either join the minyan at the basement in the building where I work, or succeed in forcing their behavior and use of the space to be reevaluated.. they are ok in the basement, it’s when they reemerge which has caused some difficulty for me.

Shabbat shalom.

Once I can revise my book budget and have the ability to purchase more books (there is a draft post on me+books+judaica waiting for me to finish).

Today I was reviewing several publisher’s websites and found the following two books at Urim Publications:

  • A new edition of Total Immersion: A Mikvah Anthology by Rivkah Slonim is out (softcover, I’m not sure what other changes are there). I really enjoyed this book five years ago when I first found it.

Softcover, revised second edition, 319 pages
    ISBN 965-7108-68-3
    publication: 2006

  • Second Chances: Transforming Bitterness to Hope and the Story of Ruth by Rabbi Levi Meier

    Hardcover, 159 pages
    ISBN 965-7108-67-5
    publication: 2005

I highly suggest that you go read the blurbs on the website. Absolutely amazing. Wow. I really can’t wait to find and be able to purchase this book. It sounds wonderful.

My davening has been horrid lately. I know I’m not the only one to go through this funk, nor is it the first time it’s happened. But this current “run” has lasted longer than before. Maybe it’s the cold and dreary winter months? I just hope that I find it again soon. I’m running out of ideas to spark it or even stay remotely motivated…

b”H I’ve been very busy, thus the delay in posting the next part on megillat Ruth.

If you wish to partake in fascinating discussions, Mayim Rabim has recently opened bulletin boards! Yasher Koach to Shanna for her hard work and dedication.
