hi my name is ruth and i’m a convert.

no, not convict, tho the way some people check up on me and look after me and my husband. an orthodox jewess. that kind of convert.

i don’t want to cause chillul hashem, but there are things i want and need to get off my chest and out in the open.

i have no idea how much i will post. we will see. i want to help other converts to know that they aren’t alone with these questions and difficulties.

I live in a community that has a great number of BTs and geirim. I often wonder how they really feel about the rest of the community. Thank you for sharing — it will hopefully help me understand my neighbours better.

Some comments on the glossary:

I would translate Kavanah as FOCUS. It pithily expresses both meanings (intent and concentrations).

Chillul hashem — lit. degradation of hashem. Believe it or not, nothing to do with non-jews. The technical violation requires the presence of a minyan, and nothing else. Of course, practuallly speaking, maing nonjews see jews as having lower moral/ethic standards, or seem less cultured, etc., can contribute to a more general sense of chillul hashem, even with no jews present.
